Youth Drama
Sleaford Little Theatre has been running it's Youth Drama groups for a number of years. Previously under the teacher Kei Bailey who moved on to become a full time Primary School teacher.
Becky Saer is now taking the Youth Drama group and has been teaching the Junior group since June 2009 and the Senior group since November 2009. She is CRB checked and has been a Drama teacher for over twelve years. Before being a Drama Teacher Becky was a professional theatre actress working mostly in Sydney, Australia and in London, England. She gave up acting in order to focus on teaching children Drama which is much more enjoyable!
The aims of the Drama sessions are to inspire children with the love of acting and performance skills. The classes involve warm up games, physical and vocal training, improvisation and script work often leading to a performance at the end of one or two terms depending on the rehearsals and the size of the project. Most importantly it is a chance for the children to have fun, learn to work as a team in group acting situations and increase their general confidence.
The Junior group has an age range from eight to twelve and the Senior group has an age range from thirteen to eighteen.
I have a CRB checked assistant called Linda who deals with the administration and payment. A term costs £13.50 which is usually eight sessions of an hour each from 5pm -6pm for Juniors on Tuesdays and £17.50 for Seniors for an hour and a half session from 6pm - 7.30pm also on Tuesdays. We break for half term in line with the school terms.
We are always encouraging new members to join for either group according to their age (there is NO audition process for joining) but we are particularly interested in increasing the numbers in the Junior group at the moment.
We also encourage adult volunteers that are CRB checked (this can be arranged by The Sleaford Little Theatre Committee) to join in set design, prop making, costumes, helping out during productions etc.
