Youth Drama
Sleaford Little Theatre has a thriving Youth Drama section which has now been running for a number of years.
Initially under the direction of teacher Kei Bailey, who moved on to become a full time Primary School teacher, Youth Drama been run, since 2009, by Becky Saer. Becky has been a drama teacher for many years and brings to the groups her experience as a professional actress in Sydney, Australia and in London. She gave up acting to focus on teaching children drama and says it is much more enjoyable! Recently, Becky and her husband were thrilled to learn they are expecting their first child. As a result Becky is now taking maternity leave until January 2014.
During Becky’s absence Youth Drama is being run by Jacki Davis. Jacki has been involved in theatre since childhood and has a wealth of experience, both as practioner and teacher, in many of the crafts involved - including direction, acting, musical theatre, writing, design, wardrobe and theatre management. As a mature student, she undertook a degree in Creative Arts (performance arts, drama and writing) and graduated in 1995 with a BA (Hons) first class. Following her move to Sleaford last year she volunteered as Becky’s assistant and was happy to take up Becky’s leadership pro temp.
Jacki is CRB checked, as is her current assistant - SLT Manager Linda Mallett.
THE AIM of SLT Youth Drama is to inspire in children a love of acting and to develop their performance skills. The sessions include warm-up games, physical and vocal training, improvisation and scripted work, all of which enhance their team-working and communication skills, confidence and self-presentation. Most importantly, it gives participants a lot of fun and a real sense of achievement. Youth Drama also offers the children a chance to appear in the public performance of plays selected and produced especially for them.
NEW MEMBERS are always welcome (subject to space availability) and they are not required to audition. The Junior group is for children aged 8 to 12 and the Senior group for ages 13 to 18.
ADULT VOLUNTEERS are also welcomed to assist with set design, props, costumes, etc and to help during productions generally. A CRB check will be required but SLT will help with this if necessary
